Responsible Travel in Borneo
Welcome to Adventure Alternative Borneo.
We organise personalised adventures in Borneo and try to avoid the standard packages. We pride ourselves on giving high quality unique experiences to our clients, and advising on itineraries to suit specific preferences. We offer scheduled dates for some of the tours we have created, but we can just as easily create an itinerary based on preferred dates and check availability.
Our company has offices in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching covering both Sabah and Sarawak and we have an extremely high quality team of staff and wildlife guides who all contribute to the team effort that makes us proud of our job.
Borneo Adventures
We cater for a range of travellers, from professional photographers to intrepid families, active couples or solo explorers and we are a provider for many well known wildlife tour agencies. With offices in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching and a total of eighteen staff and our own vehicles, our guides are now amongst the most reputable and well known in the Sabah and Sarawak parks.
The incredible biodiversity of this ancient jungle makes its a prime destination for wildlife lovers, it is also perfect for families and we can offer the specific advice and ideas for parents looking to take children of all ages on a special jungle holiday. Similarly if you have a wildlife wish list on birds, animals or insects you want to see we can advise on which places to visit and the logistics of your trip.
For those looking for a challenge, our Maliau Basin treks allow guests to discover a ‘Lost World’ or see sunrise from above the clouds on Mount Kinabalu. You can visit the remote Murut communities, one of the last headhunting tribes of Borneo, or sail into the mouth of the Kinabatangan River to stay in an Abai village and go on wildlife river safaris with local guides. Or trek to the far-flung Penan Tribe in Sarawak to discover hidden waterfalls, primary rainforest and visit a community reforestation project with these original jungle experts.

Our Social Responsibility Efforts
We have pioneered and supported many local initiatives in Sabah and Sarawak, most notably a tree planting in the Penan Peace Park in Sarawak alongside the Moving Mountains Trust, and a fig planting operation in Sabah. We donate a proportion of our revenues to the important work of planting figs and other species along the Kinabatangan river to create wildlife corridors through areas that have been logged.
We are keen to educate our visitors as well as provide a wildlife holiday, if not only to highlight the damage to the habitat and ecosystem of the animals they have to see. This is a big part of the role of wildlife guides who have been working in the region long enough to see the change. It is vitally important that companies like ourselves are part of the solution and not just perpetuating commercial tourism for its own sake. We do aim to use tourism as a way of protecting large tracts of land which are recognised by the Sabah authorities as important carbon sinks and areas of natural habitat for species which are rapidly dwindling. We see our role as the antithesis to the logging trade, providing protection for nature and income for local people.
What Our Customers Say
Deramakot forest is by far the best kept secret in Borneo for wild life. We went with Adventure alternative Borneo and had an amazing guide in Mike.Beyond every expectation and I could happily stay there for months. It has everything in the wildlife check list and with Mike we able to see most of it. Wish I had stayed longer. I have been on many safaris around the world and this is right up there with the best. If you have time make it a number 1 place to go in Borneo you can thank me later!!!!
